U.S.S. Franklin's Ship Guest Log
Name: Anthony E. ChambersMy Grandfather, Patrick A. Chambers, served aboard the USS Franklin. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. I was very fortunate to have my grandparents live with our family for a few years when I was young boy growing up. I would often sit on the front porch in the evenings with my Grandfather and listen to exciting events that took place on the Franklin. This was almost a daily routine on our little farm in upstate New York. I remember that he always carried a card in his wallet illustrating membership to the “Big Ben 704 Club”. I always think of my Grandfather and the stories that took place on the “Big Ben” when ever I’m underway on the St. Lawrence River.May God Bless the Crew and their families of the USS Franklin, CV-13.

My uncle, Art Grantz, was aboard the Franklin during the March attack. He survived many hours in the water before he was picked up. His stories about that day are very interesting. I would like to hear from anyone who might remember him.
The United States Navy Memorial in Washington, DC is now offering FREE NavyLog Enrollment. See details on their website at www.navymemorial.org.
PASS THE WORD!!!
My Dad was on board the Franklin. He survived the March 19, 1945 attack. Is there a document that shows the entire list of those abord the Franklin? Thanks for your reply.
The conductor of the Lone Star Symphonic Band, Dr. Clancy Weeks, is the son of Leo Weeks, who was on board the USS Franklin in March 1945. Dr. Weeks composed a piece dedicated to his father and the survivors of the Franklin. On July 2, 2006, the band will perform the centerpiece of Dr. Weeks' composition, entitled "We Commit Their Souls", at 7:00 PM at the Houston Community College Town and Campus, I-10 and Beltway 8, Houston, TX. If there are any men in the Houston, TX area who served on the USS Franklin, we would like to invite them and their families as our honored guests that night. For more information, please contact Leslie Parish at lesliep@lonestarsymphonicband.com for more information.
