Name: Mike HawthorneIf anyone has info on my cousin Bud Hawthorne please contact me. Thanks
My husband's uncle AMM1c Charles Calvin Conner was aboard the USS Franklin and KIA March 19, 1945.We appreciate this web site and the internet for all the information we have obtained. It has been an honor to
look at the Memorials. God Bless and Thank you,
Evelyn Conner
My father was one of the men trapped in the mess on March 19, 1945 who were found and led out in groups. I believe he was a gunner's mate. His name is Robert B. Clarke.
Great web site, very informative. Thank you for remembering my uncle and his shipmates
Dad was Quartermaster 2nd Class Martin, and blown off the ship due to an explosion. Hw was picked up by the Santa Fe. One of their crew let him use his razor and got him a toothbrush. He never forgot his "generosity".
I am doing some big band history, am interested in any info on Saxie Dowell, leader of the band on the Franklin.
I noticed that Capt. W. O. Chapman is listed as KIA as part of VMF-214. I had the pleasure of meeting Capt. Chapman at a 214 reunion in Ne. in 1995. My father Al Sibbernsen was part of that group.
My grandfather Kenneth E. Posey was a naval fighter pilot on board the USS Franklin and was blasted off. He floated in the water for hours and said that was one of the scariest experiences he ever had. I loved hearing his stories of WW II and he said he was never waved off when trying to land. One of the fighters he flew was the Corsair.
May 15, 2006, I found out last night from my dad that my grandfather was aboard the Franklin, so I looked her up and found your site. His name was Gordon H. Root. My dad told me that granddad has never talked about it. I served aboard the USS Coral Sea CV-43 76-80. Nice site.
