My Dad was a crew member on March 19, 1945. He ended up in the
V.A. hospital in Menlo Park, Calif. Then Palo Alto, Calif. from 1954 through
1972 where he died.

my father Howard Deem was on board
Comments:
He was a fighter pilot- had recently been assigned to the Franklin
when it was attacked. Thankfully, he lived. Thank you to all the crewmembers
for your sacrifice and bravery in protecting the United States.

PFC Willian Ellis "Buddy" Van Vleet was a plank owner-orginal
member of the crew from precomissioning training in Newport,RI, till he was
KIA March 19,1945. This is a great site.

My brother was on the Franklin and died in the bombing in 1945. He
was one of the 72 enlisted Marines in the 7th Division, and was a AA Gunner,
20 mm guns. He also did Guard Duty on the 40 mm guns. He got a a lot ribbing
for being from "Apalachicola". I heard he was on the Fantail of the ship when
it was bombed. If anyone knew him, please e-mail. I would lile to know
more.
